Gilbert is home to a growing collection of murals that grace the brick walls of its downtown area, as well as other locations throughout the town. These murals are created by local artists and feature a wide range of styles and themes, from abstract patterns to realistic depictions of people and animals. Taking a mural tour is a great way to spend an afternoon in Gilbert. It’s free, you’ll get your steps in, and it’s full of all those instagammable moments!
Gilbert, AZ Mural Walking Tour
To start your mural tour, head downtown to see some of the most iconic murals in the area. You'll find colorful and eye-catching paintings on the sides of buildings, as well as on utility boxes and other public spaces.
Downtown Gilbert (otherwise known as the Heritage District) is also home to over 30 restaurants and eclectic shops. It is a lively and fun space that is popular among locals and visitors alike. Be sure to stop in some of the local restaurants and shops after your walking mural tour!
Where should I park to start my Mural Tour?
Downtown Gilbert has 9 FREE parking garages throughout the district (as shown on this map). Although any of these garages would work, I suggest parking in one of the 3 garages north of Vaughn Street as the following mural tour takes you from North downtown Gilbert to South.
Stop 1: Gilbert Self-Storage Mural
After securing parking, it’s time to walk to your first Mural! Just a short .03-mile walk from the Vaughn Avenue Parking Garage, you’ll find the Gilbert Self Storage Mural that depicts a painting of Gilbert Road in the early 1900s.

Stop 2: Culinary Drop-Out Mural
Keep heading south for 0.1 miles and you’ll find the Culinary Drop Out Mural that features famous song titles. Nearby, you’ll also find the Surrounded by Life painted bench and the popular Circular Lights.

Stop 3: Petersen’s Ice Cream Shop
Just across the street, you’ll find the delicious Petersen’s Ice Cream Shop. Although not technically a mural, there are giant ice cream sculptures outside that are great to add to this art tour. It’s a great place for a pit stop for some delicious Gilbert Ice Cream.

Stop 4: Vintage Bubble
Head west for 0.1 miles until you arrive at the unique Vintage Bubble mural. The artist here used a mixture of black and white and pops of color to make her vision come alive. This may be one of my favorite murals in all of Gilbert!

Stop 5: O.S.H.O Gilbert Mural
Perhaps the most popular mural in all of Gilbert, this postcard-inspired mural is perfect for that Instagram-worthy photo you are looking for. Plus, it’s on the side of the O.S.H.O. Brewery so you can stop in for a beer, snack, or yard game during your Gilbert Mural Tour.

Stop 6: Desert Dream Mural
Just across the road, you’ll arrive at your next mural. The Desert Dream Mural is a beautiful large painting that features the beauty of the desert. If you didn’t eat at the last stop, this mural is on the north side of The Porch restaurant- a great spot for a drink, dessert, or full meal.

Stop 7: Topo Mural & Welcome to G-Town
This stop has two murals for the price of one! Okay, they are free to see but Joe’s Real BBQ is home to two fun murals. You’ll find the Topo Mural of the Sonoran Desert on the front and the famous Welcome to G-town painting. And, if you are anything like me, you won’t be able to resist the tasty BBQ aroma from the restaurant.

Stop 8: Gema Mural
The Gema mural celebrates diversity and women of color. It’s a personal piece to the artists as it features women in his own life. This mural is on the back side of Flashback Antiques which makes for a fun shopping stop as well!

Stop 9: American Legion Mural
Your next stop on this downtown Gilbert Mural tour is the American Legion Mural. It was actually a community project where members of a Gilbert Leadership Class created a mural of Gilbert during World War I. There are benches here to take a break before you head and continue hunting for Gilbert murals.

Stop 10: Casa De Gilbert
A simple, yet powerful mural that spreads positivity and hope to the people of Gilbert!

Stop 11: You Had Me at Gilbert
Right across the street from stop 10, you’ll find another fun mural on the side of The Art House Gilbert. If you plan your mural tour right, you may even be able to participate in a public art class or painting party inside!

Stop 12: HD South Mural
Your last stop on this downtown Gilbert Mural tour is another community project. The HD South Mural is a great last stop as the art includes symbols of what makes Gilbert great. Take your final pictures and then head back to your car. It’s about a .6-mile walk back.
