Things to do at Gilbert Regional Park
Playground
At the center of Gilbert Regional Park, you’ll find a massive 17 ft tall playground. Complete with 7 slides of various lengths, rock walls, swings, and for a real wow factor, a zipline! The city has recently installed multiple shade structures over the playground which is an absolute must under the hot Arizona sun.
There’s also a designated and separate playground designed with the younger kiddos in mind. This playground features smaller hillside slides and many opportunities to climb and adventure without having to worry about if it’s too dangerous or not.
The park was designed with inclusivity in mind and you'll find many areas that are wheelchair accessible and an inclusive swing.
Splash Pad
Summers in Arizona are hot, hot, HOT. A splash pad is an absolute necessity when it may be too hot to explore the playground. The Gilbert Regional Park has a wonderful 4,000 sq ft. splash pad with over 50 interactive water features guaranteed to keep the kids busy for hours! The splash pad is open 365 days a year from 8:30-9:30 and is well-lit so the fun doesn't have to stop when the sun goes down!

Fishing
In addition to the playground and splash pad, Gilbert Regional Park also features a 7-acre lake filled with different fish. Although you are not able to swim or wade in this lake, it’s the perfect place to put those fishing skills to use! Grab your fishing license, rod, and lures, and see if you can bring home dinner!
Important! All individuals over 10 years old MUST have a valid fishing license. To see more details about the stocking schedule and the daily fish limits, visit The Community Fishing Program Site.
Walking Trail
Whether you are looking to get some exercise, test out your kid’s new bike, or maybe enjoy a sunset by the lake, the 1-mile paved trail will be your go-to spot inside the park. It’s also a great spot to bring a date for a fun outdoor date night in Gilbert! Anyone up for a rollerblading date?
Sports Course
For my more athletic and competitive folks, Gilbert Regional Park has so many amazing sports courts to choose from. All sports courses are available on a first-come first-serve basis, so you may have to wait your turn, but if full, individuals are expected to follow a courteous court rotation.
There are 16 pickleball courts, 6 tennis courts, 2 basketball courts, and 6 sand Volleyball courts (complete with sand cooling spray!). The courts are all well-lit and feature shaded seating for any observers.
You can even host tournaments here, but be sure to fill out the tournament application here before planning your event.
Hosting events at Gilbert Regional Park:
Gilbert Regional Park is also a great place to hold birthday parties or other large events. The park has 15 smaller Ramadas near the playground and 1 large Ramada for large group events that are available to rent on an hourly basis. The smaller Ramadas have 4 picnic tables each while the large Ramada can hold around 160 people with 12 tables. They are all equipped with grills and a power source.
If you are interested in hosting a HUGE event, you can look into renting the Amphitheater or one of the lawns (Great lawn or North or South). For more information on rentals, click here!

Upcoming Additions to Gilbert Regional Park:
Although the park is already amazing, the city of Gilbert has big plans for the park. The park currently sits on 272 acres with only 64 of those developed which leaves a lot of room for more! The current plans include building a massive 25-acre waterpark, Cactus Surf Park. Activities here will include waterslides, swimming, kayaking, inflatable play structures, a surf pool, and so much more.
Other possibilities for growth could include baseball fields, hiking trails, a dog park, and other community areas.
Gilbert Regional Park FAQs:
- Are dogs Allowed? Dogs are allowed to join you on a physical leash as long as you clean up after them and keep them off the playground and sports course. The walking path around the lake is a great place to take your pup!
- Are there bathrooms on site? Yep! Clean and spacious bathrooms that are open during park operating hours.
- Where do I park? There are actually 5 rather large lots to choose from. Lots A and E are closest to the playground and splash pad. Lot D is in the center of the sports courts, and Lot C offers plenty of overflow parking by the volleyball courts.
- Is it clean? Yes!! Gilbert Parks and Rec does an AMAZING job keeping this park (and bathrooms) clean. Kudos to them!! As always, be sure to do YOUR part in helping maintain this beautiful park. Clean up after yourselves and leave it better than you found it.
- Is Gilbert Regional Park Safe? I have always felt extremely safe at the park. The playground and splash pad are specifically designed with kids in mind and each area is well-lit when the sun goes down. However, it can get busy and is a very large park so it’s always important to keep a close eye on your kiddos.
